Fisher, whose own home sustained damage during Hurricane Irma, emphasized the importance of addressing water intrusion risk. Glaser added that the problem escalates in high-rise buildings, where water leaking in from the upper floors can cause significant damage below.
How StormArmour Works
The kits, retailing for $586, have undergone rigorous testing at Florida International University’s Wall of Wind laboratory. Results show that StormArmour can repel up to 97% of the water entering sliding glass doors, which is particularly relevant since many insurance policies do not cover damage from such incidents. The product is now available for preorder at major retailers like Home Depot and also directly from the manufacturer’s website.
Looking Ahead: Support for Homeowners
As Florida enters an above-normal hurricane season this year, homeowners will need every advantage they can get. To encourage widespread implementation, Fisher notes that condo associations installing StormArmour can qualify for the My Safe Florida Condo grant, which helps subsidize hurricane mitigation projects. This initiative not only helps individual homeowners but also strengthens community resilience.
